Initialising the Hearing Check…
The hearing test is designed to help identify people who believe they may be suffering from hearing loss, encourage them to take action and prevent further damage to their hearing.
Our free hearing test should not replace regular audiometric testing provided by a registered hearing aid dispenser or through a review with a licensed audiologist. Your local GP or medical professional will be able to appropriately refer you if you would like a full audiological assessment if you suspect that you are suffering from a hearing impairment.
Results of this check or results issued via a hearing care professional may highlight the need for hearing aids. Digital hearing aids and amplified items can be the steps to better hearing.
Our online hearing test only takes three minutes. All you have to do is enter a few details such as age and gender, plug in a set of head or earphones and then you're ready to start the test. You will get your results instantly and they will indicate if you should take further action. Professional hearing tests may take longer due to the extensive nature of a checkup.
The Hearing Direct hearing check is free. You can take it in the comfort of your own home. All you will need is an internet connection, some earphones, and an email address so you can get your results for free. A hearing screening can also be conducted by the NHS for free or privately, which you may have to pay for.
The hearing test will check for hearing loss by playing a set of sounds. During the test, you will have to appropriately react to varying tones. Based on your ability to hear the sounds, test results will indicate if you should seek medical guidance.
The more sounds you successfully identify, the higher you will score, meaning you are less leaving to have a hearing impairment. A low score will indicate that you may need to properly review your hearing. An audiologist will be able to conduct further tests and provide professional advice on what to do next.
Anybody can take a hearing test. Those who are concerned about their hearing can take our online hearing test to see if they could be suffering from hearing loss. It is advised that we check our hearing regularly, even more so as we get older to watch out for age-related hearing loss.
This check has not been designed for use by children. Children should always be seen by a doctor and referred for full diagnostic testing if there are any concerns over their hearing.
Having completed our hearing loss test and reviewed your results, for a full clinical assessment you may need to visit a licensed audiologist or a healthcare professional. In the UK, you can have your ears tested on the NHS. You can get a free NHS hearing test or your GP may recommend you schedule an appointment, but this may take several weeks. If you are hoping for a quicker turnaround, some pharmacies and opticians can professionally check your hearing, however, this comes with a cost.
